Clear the Clutter

We are all guilty of hoarding to some extent. Keeping things just in case we might need them later.

Have a clear out and sell off those things you no longer need or use. With a little effort you could raise much needed extra cash.
Places like Facebook Marketplace or ebay are an easy way to start.

Buy Used

I’m not saying you should buy second-hand items all the time. However, if you have the option then you can save a significant amount of money buying lightly used items instead of new.
You could check in local charity stores or online marketplaces for what you need at a much better price.

Regifting

Regifting is the act of taking a gift that has been received and giving it to somebody else, sometimes in the guise of a new gift. According to etiquette experts, it is perfectly acceptable to regift items, but some guidelines should be followed: Don’t re-gift used items. Sentimental items don’t make for good regifts.

Personalized items are a no-no. Only re-gift something that you truly believe the recipient will value and enjoy. make sure the regifted item doesn’t end up someplace where the original giver will see it. Always rewrap items before regifting them.

Shop around for the best insurance

Insurance can be a large expense.

It is critical to choose the best insurance for your lifestyle and budget. By this I mean the insurance which gives you the cover you want, not necessarily the cheapest.

Once you have a good understanding of what insurance you need, make sure you shop around while ensuring that you have the right cover. Shopping around can save you significant amounts of money.

Review subscriptions

Have a look at the regular subscriptions you pay each month and decide which ones you actually need.

Avoid credit card debt

The interest rates on credit cards can be huge. It is easy to rack up unnecessary debt very quickly if you aren’t careful.

It is important to pay off the balance in full each month otherwise the interest charges can mount up.

Consider A Side Hustle

Whilst being careful and utilizing the tips on this site will definitely help you manage your money, earning an extra income, either through a side hustle or by getting a part-time job in addition to your full-time day job is a surefire way of raising that extra cash.
For example, I am a partner with UW as it allows me to earn an extra income in the nooks and crannies of my day.

Do I really Need It?

Buying something in the black Friday sales, for example, can save you money.

However, if is something that you don’t really need or just a whim or impulse buy then you haven’t really saved money at all. You have just spent money you didn’t need to and wouldn’t have otherwise spent.

No Spend Challenge

Try a No Spend Challenge.

During a no-spend challenge, you pay for essentials only for a set period. Thirty days is common, so you might hear it called a no-spend month too. Basically, you’re covering your food, utilities, housing and transport, plus other essentials, but you’re saying no to all the extras.

30 Day Rule

Next time you find yourself considering an impulse buy, particularly for larger purchases, stop yourself and think about it for 30 days. If you still want to make that purchase after those 30 days, go for it.

Why not try this next time you find yourself buying something on impulse.

Check The Labels

When buying clothes, check the labels for special care instructions before you purchase. That way you can avoid buying items with high dry cleaning costs for example.

Repurpose old clothes

Don’t throw away old clothes. Instead wear them for those dirty jobs like cleaning, gardening or DIY. That way you don’t spoil your good clothes.

If there’s no life left in them then use them as cleaning rags.

Make Your Own

Why not have a go at making your own Christmas decorations, cards and treats?

If you have young children or grandchildren it’s fun and educational to involve them

Take a Weekend Off

Try a no-spend weekend
Go for walks, play board games, visit free museums, and use up leftover food. You may be surprised how much you enjoy it

Save It

Following on from wait thirty days tip why not save what you need. So if you want that £100 dress decide you can’t buy til you have that in a savings account. You may then decide you rather like having that money there…either way you will have the money rather than putting it on credit card.

Pay It Off

If you do use a credit card make sure you pay it off iin full every month. Interest rates are high.

If you don’t think you would be able to do this then maybe go back and review the previous tip before you commit to using your card.

Doormats

Add doormats at all entrances to the house to reduce the risk of having to clean up muddy footprints.

Create a no-shoe policy in your home to keep your floors cleaner for longer. Saves you time and energy if don’t have to get the vacuum out every day

White Vinegar

White vinegar…just a cheap supermarket own brand will do. There are many ways to use this for cleaning…two easy ones…cleaning your toilet and shower head.

Regular Prescriptions?

Need regular prescriptions? Check whether a prepaid prescription deal would suit you.

Not for everyone but if you have to have three items each month or more than 11 items in twelve months then this could save you money as prescription costs can mount up.

Set a Budget

Set a budget and stick to it.

One of the things traveling around in our motorhome has taught us is just how important working to a budget is. When we are traveling we are purely reliant on savings. The quicker we spend them the sooner we would have to return home.

Keeping daily records of expenditure and maintaining a spreadsheet helps us track our spending and stay within budget. It also forces us to really think about where the money is going. If we can do it so can you 🥰

Utility Warehouse

One of the ways of controlling bills is to shop around for your utility supplier. Utility Warehouse offers an all-in-one solution for all your household utility bills.
