A little story about making an informed purchase.
A slightly different post today:
Recently Carol’s phone had started to malfunction. It was also coming to the end of the contract. We started looking around for a new one but quickly realised that the various options were very confusing. So back to square one. Start by asking the question, what do we need it for? So wrote a list of all the must-haves. For example, being able to use it while traveling in Europe next year, enough data based on her previous usage, and so on.
Once we had that information we could research the various options. Write it all down – it helps clarify everything in your own mind.
Then start to shop around for the best deal. At this point, there were still a number of different ways the purchase could be made, so we wrote down all the different options and calculated the cost over the term of the contract or equivalent.
That allowed us to see the overall costs of each option and compare like for like. This process allowed us to get exactly what we wanted at the best possible price. The moral of the story, thrift isn’t always about saving money, it’s also about making informed decisions and making sure you get the best possible deal for your requirements.
